VPLS

MASERGY's VPLS allows customers to securely extend their Ethernet local-area network throughout the entire WAN. The offering provides fully-meshed Layer 2 Multipoint connectivity to the customer no matter where they are located and independent of the access technology being used.

  • Security – An Ethernet service offered across a global network with all the privacy expected in a Layer 2 service.
  • Customer Control – The customers maintain full control over routing. Any routing protocol (OSPF, EIGRP, RIP, and BGP) can be used, and there is no need to update the provider when making changes. The MASERGY network is totally transparent to the customer.
  • Ease of Management – VPLS scales so adding a new site does not require any changes to existing sites. Existing sites will automatically recognize the new site via a new entry in their MAC tables. The process is exactly the same as adding a new PC to an Ethernet switch. Since all connectivity is done via Ethernet, any Layer 3 protocol used in the local-area network can also be transported across the wide-area network.
  • Seamless Adoption – Since most IT personnel are very familiar with Ethernet there is no need for specialized training or expensive expertise. Also, since this service is presented to the customer as Ethernet, the customer typically has equipment on hand. A standard IP router is the only customer premise equipment (CPE) required. No expensive serial cards need to be purchased for the CPE and no knowledge of serial technology (PPP, Frame Relay, HLDC, etc) is required.
  • Low Cost – Ethernet is well recognized as the most cost effective network technology.
