Future innovation starts with today’s students, and Masergy continues to promote the value of innovative ideas as a sponsor of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Scholarship program. Following an annual company tradition that dates back four years now, Masergy announced today that it is sponsoring a Spring 2020 STEM scholarship. $10,000 in total prizes will be awarded to students whose inventions have the most potential to make an impact on society.

The Spring 2019 winner was Krystal Horton, a 17-year-old student of Western Center Academy High School in Hemet, California. She attracted the judges’ attention with an innovative and research-based approach aimed at treating Alzheimer’s disease–the most common cause of dementia. Horton created a homemade electroencephalograph (EEG) and several other devices to curtail Alzheimer’s disease. Her approach is based on animal model research by Dr. Li-Huei Tsai at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Horton’s EEG was able to measure changes in gamma wave production, and her efforts serve as a proof of concept that may be used for treatments in the future.

With students like Horton, everyone at Masergy is impressed by the enginuity and pioneering spirit that STEM students demonstrate through their scholarship applications. The executive team and staff alike always look forward to supporting students through the scholarship program.

So, how do STEM students apply?

STEM majors registered at a four-year accredited university are eligible for one of two $5,000 awards. Interested students should submit a maximum 60-second video showcasing a STEM-related innovation they developed. Videos should be uploaded with @MASERGY on Twitter using the hashtag #MasergySTEMscholarship. A Masergy judging panel will determine winners based on the originality and impact of their invention.

Submissions are currently being accepted until December 15, 2019 for Spring 2020. Click here for a quick tutorial on the video submission process. For more information about the scholarship.
