In celebration of Masergy’s 20th anniversary, we’re sitting down with some of our longest-serving employees who have made the company what it is today. Included in this roundup is Brad Anouar, Masergy’s Director of UC Engineering. Here’s his story.
Living in a quiet beach city 30 minutes outside of Masergy’s Los Angeles office, Brad Anouar’s work life is punctuated by surfing, volleyball, and family. His California temperament is contrasted by his sharp business acumen–and that is precisely what makes him unique. Anouar is gifted at striking the perfect balance between working and living. “It’s always been important for me to have a good mix between work and family, and that’s what makes Masergy special to me. The company prioritizes balance, and that has gone a long way in our ability to work hard, stay ahead with the latest technology innovations, and deliver outstanding value.” One of Masergy’s four corporate values is putting “employees, customers, and partners first.”
Like many veterans at Masergy, Anouar has worn multiple hats in the eight years he’s been with the company. Yet his experience is varied in that he joined Masergy through the acquisition of cloud communications provider Broadcore in 2012. Before moving over, Anouar enjoyed a corporate culture built on autonomy and trust. Preserving this was important to him, and Masergy stepped up to the plate as the two companies merged. “There wasn’t much workaround. It was a natural alignment,” he said as he described the synergies and similar business cultures.
“Management empowers us to make decisions that we feel are best for the organization–that will deliver the best client experience. Their approach enables us to go above and beyond,” he explained. As an example, Anouar cited the initial stages of the Broadcore transition where certain aspects needed smoothing out. Staying true to its values, Masergy entrusted him with stepping in to improve communication processes between departments. By implementing new workflows that streamlined team collaboration, he was able to directly improve productivity, client responsiveness, and quality of service.
“At so many companies, process kills flexibility. Masergy has always thought differently, and that has made the difference,” he said. “Process is important, but decisions must first and foremost be made based on the clients’ business goals.”
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Anouar again applauded Masergy’s flexibility in empowering 100% of employees to work from home on a schedule that allows them to succeed in this new reality.
From the time he joined Masergy eight years ago to today, Anouar has seen the company grow significantly in size, employees, and processes. Yet Masergy’s core remains unchanged. “For as long as I’ve been with Masergy, there has never been a person who wasn’t pleasant,” he said. “We appreciate different perspectives and embrace creative dissonance. We look to hire the right people who we feel we can build trust with.”
This is key to Masergy’s unmatched customer service. “While we have changed processes and reidentified some responsibilities, the goal has always been to keep the client at the center of everything we do. For the last 20 years, we’ve been serving up incredible innovations in networking, security, and communications, but more than that we’re known for maintaining incredible client relationships.”
The last 20 years have been exhilarating, but Anouar believes the next 20 will be even better. “The world of UC is exciting and constantly changing. We’re ten steps ahead on delivering the integration, automation, and virtualization that our clients need to achieve their digital transformation goals and objectives.”
