DALLAS (May 26, 2006) – Adams and Reese LLP, a multidisciplinary, full-service law firm with ten offices across the South Central United States, has selected Masergy’s Network Analyst tool to identify and address application performance issues across its MPLS network. Adams and Reese deployed an MPLS network in August 2005 to replace its point-to-point corporate wide-area network (WAN) and improve efficiencies in the network.
Masergy’s Network Analyst tool is a comprehensive, service-embedded WAN traffic analysis service for enterprises capitalizing on their existing Masergy MPLS solutions. The service simplifies and tracks application performance and data streams flowing anywhere across a company’s WAN.
“Masergy’s Network Analyst gave us the tools to tune the network,” said David Erwin, CIO of Adams and Reese. “The results were fast, efficient and effective.”
Headquartered in New Orleans, Adams and Reese decided to implement a multi-state IP MPLS solution and selected Masergy native IP MPLS network. During contract negotiations, Hurricane Katrina devastated the firm’s offices in Louisiana. Masergy quickly installed the firm’s new corporate network at impacted sites and reconnected the entire corporate network within 10 business days, minimizing the storm’s impact on the firm’s business and overall client support.
After Adams and Reese’s MPLS network implementation was complete, Masergy’s Network Analyst was used to view the amount of traffic traversing each port at each location. Within the first two weeks of its VoIP rollout, the law firm’s voice traffic at two sites jumped considerably, without any apparent change in the network. The Network Analyst service was initiated immediately, and the IT staff quickly determined that the Cisco Call Manager was directing traffic to more locations than necessary. The staff was able to reduce the traffic in and out of each port, thereby restoring the bandwidth usage to the original levels.
“We were impressed when our network management service was installed in only a few minutes, and even more impressed with the immediate benefits we got from the service,” said Erwin. “This problem could have taken weeks or months to correct without Network Analyst.”
Embedded in the virtual private network (VPN), the Network Analyst service eliminates the need for software, hardware, integration, validation or maintenance on the part of the enterprise. Through the simplicity of a Web-based service portal, network managers can have instant availability to the service – as soon as the business starts running network traffic across the circuit.
The Network Analyst service also gives businesses with multiple sites a more comprehensive, detailed and cost-effective view of network activity and application performance without the costly expense of an overlay network solution, which tends to increase latency and reduce available bandwidth.
The scalable network management tool is convenient and secure, allowing managers to get a granular view of their network traffic by application, protocol, port, QoS level and IP address. The service also gives network managers the flexibility to define and produce detailed graphical reports for any or all circuits, as well as facilitates long-term network planning by assessing the impact of adding new users and applications to the existing network.
